Rationale

Rationale

CAS does not change the core elements involved in conventional successful knee arthroplasty; the requirements of correct limb alignment, balanced tissue tension and gap symmetry remain the same. The software workflows are based on 30 years experience of instrument design, and reflect the current surgical philosophies and techniques used in knee arthroplasty.

What CAS does change is the surgical technique, or rather the sequence of surgical steps. From this perspective CAS may represent, depending on the chosen philosophy and workflow, a significant change to surgical practice.

The challenge is to understand both manual and navigated surgical principles to a level where at any point either technique can be compared and contrasted one to the other. Delegates will be able to understand and explain how the chosen software workflow is addressing limb alignment, tissue balance, component sizing and gap symmetry.
